Superglide bangs unhitched

When we stop and start while driving the tv unhitched, the hitch slides and bangs. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

RE: FIFTH WHEEL QUALITY

Jakessweetthing is right about research. It's not enough to read websites (although this is the best) or download brochures. Go to dealers and take your time there. Tell the salesperson to leave you in rig alone. Come back the next day and do it again. Try to imagine living in the space it gives you. We wound up with our signature 5ver after months of research with about the same criteria you have. Not too expensive, quality enough, and not too big. But floorplan and features are important too. These days a big, well established manufacturer is a must--see how many are going out of business. You don't want to be left with a rig and no company to go to for any problem that might come up. But the hunt is part of the fun!

RE: Southern California Mountain Camping

You will probably get a lot of replies for Big Bear, but I'll throw in my 2cents for the Frazier Park area. If you go up the 5 just past Gorman and turn off on Frazier Mountain Park road you can follow it all the way to Mt. Pinos. There are several campgrounds there, the largest being McGill. There are many astronomers who go there because the sky is so dark. The campground is at 7500' and has 70 sites. Here's a link. There are some good hikes--especially up to the top of Mt. Pinos. It's easy and has spectacular views out over the Condor habitat.

RE: TAKE NOTE!! Jackson/Snake River KOA- Wyoming

summut2002 says it for me. Lots of good KOAs among a few bad ones. Often they are near big attractions and can ask big fees. Convenience costs. One of my favorites where we stay on the way from S. Calif. to the Yellowstone/Montana region is in Fillmore, Utah. Great mountains views, well run, lots of trees--good distance between sites.

RV Park Reviews gave Kaweah 9/10 twice this year. Maybe things have improved from two years ago. Link

RE: Sequoia National Park over Chistmas 2008

That resort is nice and close to the southern entrance to the park. However, the 198 going in is restricted to a vehicle less than 22' and they mean it. It is a snakey, steep road with hairpin curves, drop-offs and no guard rails. A truck your size will make that a memorable experience. If you're used to driving that kind of road it's beautiful in the winter, though.

RE: Bishop Ca ???

We were in Brown's Millpond campground (the north end one Doug and Cassi refer to above) for a week and liked it. We were there in the fall and there was almost no one there. Small creek down the center of the campground and trees for shade. No dump station, though. It is convenient for day exploring the entire Bishop and Mammoth area.

RE: southern arizona

You might like Kartchner Caverns State Park here.http://www.pr.state.az.us/parks/parkhtml/kartchner.html The campground has electric/water and dump station. It is higher in altitude than the caverns in a mesquite forest with nice views out over the desert. We used the TV and tried all the back roads in the area. Many ghost towns and historic sites associated with the old West. Ditto Bisbee--the old hotel has a good restaurant and the museuem has some surprising exhibits about Bisbee as an important city at the turn of the century.

RE: Cougar 245RKS

Same deal this year--Lance to a Cougar. We chose the 276 over the 244 for similar reasons. It is two feet longer but the entire side slides out. With a freestanding table and chairs there is a lot of room. We swapped out the two swivel rockers for two small recliners from Wallyworld. They are a little tight, but they are way more comfortable. The weight is almost exactly the same. The quality of the build is fine. No issues. It fits most National Forest campgrounds, if you like that sort of thing.

RE: Summer Yellowstone Trip from Southern California

If you poop out before Provo on the way up or it fits your itinerary better, the KOA in Fillmore, Utah is very nice for a stopover. Clean, nice views of the mountains, lots of trees. We are doing the same trip late summer--Bakersfield to Vegas, to Fillmore, to Idaho Falls, to Gros Ventre campground in GTNP, then Coulter Bay, then Red Rocks campground near West Yellowstone. A little slower than you want, but I don't like long drives.

RE: Oregon....favorite places to visit

Agree with all the suggestions and would add Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival which runs all summer. There are three theaters and every kind of play from Shakespeare to modern. The town is beautiful with Victorian architecture and many good restaurants. Nearby is Jackson, a preserved mining town. All on the way to the Rogue. Many campgrounds nearby.

RE: overnight stop on way to june lake

Boulder Creek if you need hookups, but choose a campsite well away from the 395. There are many NF campgrounds all around Independence and Lone Pine. Gray's Meadows is on a small trout stream not far up the road to Onion Valley and has a wonderful view out over the valley. There was a fire nearby two years ago, so you might inquire in the town. Another one off the same road, Oak Creek, is similar, but may have burned.

RE: Death Valley - suggestions

Just got back from 7 days at Panamint Springs. I can't disagree more with beaverdance. Of course, everyone is entitled to a point of view. I love Owens Valley too, but Death Valley has to be seen to believed. It is a hiker's paradise. You may not see much just driving from one famous site to another, that's true. But if you get out and walk you will be amazed. Get yourself a copy of Digonnet's "Hiking Death Valley" and take a few of the easy walks. The canyons and historical sites rival any place in the world. The National Weather Service forecast is for 70's at P.Springs and 80's and 90's for Furnace Creek next week (the hottest part). Perfect weather. Towne Pass is steep but an excellent road. The 190 from Owens Valley is narrow and winding (hold your mouth right), but your trailer is small enought that you should be okay. If you stay at P Springs take the hike (easy) to Darwin Falls nearby. Yes, a waterfall. And the almost ghost town of Darwin as a side trip is full of crazy stuff quite a sight. Have fun!

RE: Wildcat, Sabre, Cougar Help Me

Another very satisfied Cougar owner. We've been out three times in our 08 and no problems whatsoever. We were very interested in the Wildcat and I think it's a great unit. But be very careful with your inspection. We saw two new ones on a lot and both were extremely lacking in quality control. There were moldings that didn't meet, framing that was cut badly, etc. Any unit can have problems, but we were surprised by this. When we looked at a lot of Cougars we saw none of these problems. I have seen Wildcats that were fine, though.

RE: San Fran to Grand Canyon - Where to Stop

Here's what we did two years ago from L.A. We took the 58 from Bakersfield on over to the I40 and pushed on through to Kingman, AZ. There we stayed in the KOA which wasn't a bad one. Then, the next day we took the historic US66 route instead of the I40. If you haven't done it, it's great fun. We rejoined the I40 near Ash Fork, and then the drive on into Williams on the I40 is easy.

RE: Death Valley

Everyone's suggestions are great. To really whet your appetite see this book: Hiking Death Valley: A Guide to Its Natural Wonders & Mining Past (Paperback) by Michel Digonnet. The writing and enthusiasm for the natural wonders and ghost mining camps of Death Valley will make you want to spend a month there. The flowers this year are spectacular. By the way there is a hookup rv resort just at the western boundary in Panamint Springs. Google it--restaurant etc. Within the park the hookup campground is a little dismal.

RE: CALIFORNIA TRIP

You didn't say what kind of rv you're driving. If it's small and maneuverable you can find campsites in National Forest campgrounds near the popular sites you mention (dry camping). Here is a link to a great site that reviews these: heherere If you need hookups there is a small rv park in Oakhurst that is within driving distance of both Sequoia/King's Canyon and Yosemite. It nice and has a river running by it. You can do a search on this forum for Yosemite reservations and you will find dozens of strategies people use to get these prized sites.
